Shararaa

Woh barish ki dhun, woh barasta sagar;
Inhi khayalon mein gumm, baitha tha main andar.
___
Ke ayee ek hawa, aur sab badal gaya;
Baithe baithe achanak, main udd gaya.
___
Maine dekhi ek duniya, jahaan barasti thi khushiyaan;
Jahaan keemti thi jaan, aur hasna tha asaan.
___
Jahaan neendein thi lambi, par tha jaaga hua insaan;
Ranjish thi wazan se, aur mohabbat se thi pehchaan.
___
Woh barish ki dhun, woh barasta sagar;
Inhi khayalon mein gumm, baitha tha main andar.
___
Ke ik jhalak dikh gayee, aur badal gaya nazaara;
Saawan mein nikal gaya, main dhoondne shararaa
___
Hawa ne ki saazish aur dhuaan uthh gaya;
Apne aansoo-on ka Sikandar, main wahin pe lutt gaya.
___
Woh barish ki dhun, woh barasta sagar;
Inhi khayalon mein gumm, baitha tha main andar.
___

I have been told by all my friends that I should write the translations of what I write in Hindi.
Something I avoid for two reasons. One, it makes the whole effort seem like explaining a joke to get people to laugh and second, my English writing suffers from Parkinson’s. Methinks.
So if there is anyone who gets the plot but misses the point please write in to me.
And for someone who doesn’t understand a word of Hindi, look at picture on the profile page….
.
Cute ain’t I?
.
ps- Took the title picture in Munnar, Kerala.

Harjee Kapur you're a Rockstar. You're writing can never suffer from anything.
A very nice post though I am still unclear about the meaning of 'Shararaa'
I missed the point :-(
And I must say, what you have achieved in your previous post is beyond words... it stands as one of my all time favourite posts on blogspot. It touched a chord... many actually. Please write like that more often...
'Achhoot' was awesome.
'Shararaa' rocks!

muwaaah!

How long did it take to write this one? 5 mins ;-) ???
I'm turning green here....

Dear Harjee,

I know you wanted me to comment first especially considering this was a hindi post et al but work summoned and you know what thats like...

So, first things first - as you can see this is not a monosyllabal comment so I've achieved one of the things you asked for...

As for the post, well you know how good my hindi is and while it was beautiful reading the translation I'm sure I have lost most of the impact that you intended

I have always said you write better in hindi than u do english...

Nevertheless keep writing and keep blogging

Noojes

PS - You seem to have quite a harem on blogspot ;)

Zarine : Thank you sweety :-) You're too kind with words...And you couldn't miss the point....You're a Shararaa yourself... trust me... I know...

Scribblez : Thanks... yeah... rains are beautiful.

Noojes : Thanks for the verbose comment. I agree as far as the linguistics go. And about the Harem...? Why you complain about the new additions my love? You still the President ;-) And will remain...

jhoomti hui badalon ki yeh kahani
le gaye hume ek daur purani
barasne lage hum pe bhi woh barish aur uski dhun
ehsaas hua...ae ajnabee
to socha...
is barsaat ke dil ki dhadkan bhi le sun...

(pardon the attempt at Hindi..hehe)
loved it! and if you try and translate the same, your words won't have the same meaning anymore...

Harjee, the women seem to love you! Then just cant't get enough of you!!
So does it reallt matter what I have to say? Nope, it doesn't.
Still, very nice post, beautiful poem.

Bitchlet : Thank you :-) Imagine?

Lovemarks : That was beautiful. You should write in Hindi as well. To hell with everything else, you get the thought across really well. Thanks for the compliment. I so agree translations fuck up the whole thing.

Kitsch : Awww... I thought you like the rubbing sweety ;-) Well, not to worry. I shall explain it to you :-) In detail ;-) And I cannot believe you will ever lack anything to say... and I like it that way.

Nishant : Yes it does. Trust me... Compliments are viewed without frames of reference. Species, gender, age or relationship. Thanks :-) Glad you liked it.

Sophie : Thank you so much : - ) glad you liked it.

Monika : I agree. That’s why there never are and never will be any translations. Someone who doesn’t get it, their loss. Thanks for the kind words…you’re generous. And I am happy.

Noojes : No denying that darling… fabulous too is an understatement.

Miss A : please keep visiting. Apna hi ghar samajhna…sharmana mat! Will keep writing in Hindi as and when I have something as good. Thanks for achhoot. It is special and very close to my heart.

Demi Goddess : Shukriya! Glad you liked it. Munnar is awesome… geographically god has been very kind to Munnar. And socially mankind has. It is a honeymooners paradise!!! Munnar has more hotels per square km than people. Not to forget Karalla is the most densely populated state…

Ekta : Thank you so much 

Gutterspace : Thank you  A copywriters compliment is always special…and considering most of the ones I know cannot grasp hindi… they are few… Methinks I’m wasting myself here too… but I don’t know what else to do  Any suggestions?

Divya : Thank you 

4WD : I can try writing about that… will get back to you on that one ;-)

“Sen”sational : You just made my day… thank you.

Aditi : Thank you… kabhi Kabhi is an angle I never thought of but now that you mention it…

Radhika : Thank you. I hope there are more who share the same sentiments. Then we can yank the whole bloody caste system out of our society.

Ruler : You’re welcome. Glad you liked the blogsite. Hope I can keep up the standards…

Sudeep : A lot of effort ? yes… but in the thought process. The writing on its own is like 5 mins. The thinking takes a few days. Glad you liked the space… and the blog name. Chakraviyuh is special… it was the most personal branding exercise of my life… and methinks I did a good job…

Shikha : You liked it? but which one? There are two here. Munnar skyline and moi… which one you referring to ?

What kind of people pretend to NOT get Hindi, while they're living and thriving in India? LOL!
Translations usually kill the heart and soul of poetry. Resist the idea till you can!
:)

± said...

Vijayeta : Trust me, you find all kinds. And shapes and sizes.
Can be broadly catgorised as 'pseudo'.
Don't worry, will not translate :-)
